Return To Work Assessment

Return to work assessments are comprehensive in nature and will vary in length according to the unique needs of the worker and their relationship with their workplace setting. The assessment looks at the physical readiness of the worker with regards to returning to work and will look into developing a structured/goal orientated plan in order to make returning to work effective and successful.

Where and how is the return to work assessment completed?

Return to work assessments completed by one of our Occupational Therapists to aid in the safe return to work. Our Occupational Therapists will advise on how to aid an individual's return and offer recommendations such as a phased return to work. This should allow for the appropriate adjustments, where required, to be put into place prior to their return to work.

What problems may be suitable for a return to work assessment?

An Occupational Therapy return to work assessment would be suitable for an individual, if they have any of the following difficulties.

  • Joint pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Vision impairment
  • Difficulties accessing the environment
  • Mental health well being
  • Chronic fatigue

Our Occupational Therapists will complete a return to work assessment to determine how the above difficulties are impacting upon an individual's ability to complete their work based activities. If youfeel you yourself or a family member are struggling due to any of the above difficulties and that they impact heavily on your abilities to preform within the work place environment, then a return to work assessment may be suitable.

Conditions suitable for a return to work assessment

An Occupational Therapist would complete a return to work assessment for the following conditions:

Areturn to work assessment can also be completed on individuals without a specific diagnosis. Following an assessment one of our Occupational Therapists can provide recommendations on how to adapt the environment/work station and worker roles to make returning to work after a period of absence more successful and reduce the changes of another long period of absence.

What are the benefits toa return to work assessment?

A return to work assessment may be a necessity to fulfil the requirements as part of your employee contact and occupational health policy. Our Occupational Therapy return to work assessments have many benefits as they are not only completed by a highly skilled therapists with the in depth knowledge of condition and physical/mental difficulties, but they are also able to identify and address any problems (work related or not work related) that may contribute to more absences in the future. Our Occupational Therapist are also able to offer recommendations such as a phased return, altered hours or amended duties in order to enable an effective return to work for both the employee and employer.

What information will I receive following a return to wok assessment?

Following one of our return to work assessments, a therapist will discuss with the individual and the employer the outcome of the assessment and will explain in further detail any advised recommendations. If required a detailed report can follow each assessment can be issued. This will contain a complete analysis of the assessment and document how the workplace environment/station and duties can be adapted in order to aid an individual's abilities to complete their work based duties.

Treatment

Treatment following a return to work assessment may include one or more of the following:

  • Movement breaks
  • Aids and adaptations
  • Recommendations
  • Planning and organising programmes

Our Occupational Therapy treatments can be carried out in the individuals own home or here in one of our clinics.

Summary

In summary our return to work assessment will identify why an individual has been absent from work for a substantial amount of time and will provide recommendations on how to adapt or alter their role, work station or environment to aid their return to work and prevent further absences.
