A functional assessment can also be completed on individuals without a specific diagnosis and with other conditions not listed above. Our functional assessments are an excellent outcome measure and can be used to measure and demonstrate a change in an individual's functional ability.

What will the functional assessment assess?

Our Occupational Therapists will complete a functional assessment in order to gain a better understanding of how a functional difficulty is impacting on an individual's ability to complete daily activities, both at home and in work. The assessment will include a practical assessment along detailed discussion, in order to aid the individuals understanding and allowing them to select the correct treatment pan for them.

Impact on home and work environment

A functional assessment allows for our therapists to identify any functional difficulties and determine how these are impacting on an individual's ability to perform both at home and at work. For example, poor fine motor skills can result in an individual having difficulties with getting dressed and can also have detrimental effects on working relationships, as others at work may feel you are not completing all of your duties equally, due to your limited abilities.

What information will I receive following a functionalassessment?

Following one of our functional assessments, therapist will discuss with the individual the outcome of the assessment and will explain in further detail why an individual may be experiencing some difficulties. If desired, a report detailing the findings of the assessment can be provided. This will contain an inclusive analysis of how the condition is impacting on the individual's abilities to complete activities they what and need to do. A treatment will also follow one of our functional assessment and will provide individual recommendations on how to improve upon their daily living skills.
